Hank & Cupcakes bringing electro-pop to Songbirds
Hailed by MTV as a “fresh new artist with an infectious blend of electro- pop goodness,” Hank & Cupcakes is honing its explosive live performances in front of a udiences as t he duo tour the country in support of their third album, “Cheap Thrill.”
The act, comprised of Ariel “Hank” Scherbacovsky on bass and Sagit “Cupcakes” Shir on vocals and drums, will stop at Songbirds Guitar Museum on Friday, Oct. 6., with Marie Sable.
Shir and Scherbac ovs k y began their partnership in Tel Aviv before moving to New York City in 2008. They currently call Atlanta home. The husband a nd wife met while both were in the Israeli Army.
Despite being creat- ed without keyboards or even guitars, their sound is full and bombastic rock ‘n’ roll. He manages to get that full sound via his bass guitar and an arsenal of effects pedals, while Cupcakes stands at her relatively simple drum kit, pounding out rhythms. The result is a wall of sound blending funk, electronic, dance and rock music.
