Hank & Cup­cakes bring­ing elec­tro-pop to Song­birds

Hailed by MTV as a “fresh new artist with an in­fec­tious blend of elec­tro- pop good­ness,” Hank & Cup­cakes is hon­ing its ex­plo­sive live per­for­mances in front of a udi­ences as t he duo tour the coun­try in sup­port of their third al­bum, “Cheap Thrill.”

The act, com­prised of Ariel “Hank” Scherba­cov­sky on bass and Sagit “Cup­cakes” Shir on vo­cals and drums, will stop at Song­birds Gui­tar Mu­seum on Fri­day, Oct. 6., with Marie Sable.

Shir and Scherbac ovs k y be­gan their part­ner­ship in Tel Aviv be­fore mov­ing to New York City in 2008. They cur­rently call At­lanta home. The hus­band a nd wife met while both were in the Is­raeli Army.

De­spite be­ing creat- ed with­out key­boards or even gui­tars, their sound is full and bom­bas­tic rock ‘n’ roll. He man­ages to get that full sound via his bass gui­tar and an ar­se­nal of ef­fects ped­als, while Cup­cakes stands at her rel­a­tively sim­ple drum kit, pound­ing out rhythms. The re­sult is a wall of sound blend­ing funk, elec­tronic, dance and rock mu­sic.
