Childers channels B.B. King at Songbirds
Fans lucky enough to catch Paul Childers’ performance in October at the Chuck Berry Birthday Bash at Songbirds Guitar Museum will remember Childers rocked Berry’s Gibson ES-355 TDSV guitar from Songbirds’ legendary collection.
“I had him come in for Berry’s birthday and, in the middle of the show, we gave him Chuck’s guitar that we pulled out of the case. He ripped into ‘Johnny B. Goode’ after calming down when we gave him the guitar,” recalls Mike Dougher, Songbirds talent buyer.
It was such an unforgettable performance that Songbirds and Childers are going to try to recapture that magic when the Childers honors B. B. King on the anniversary of King’s first No. 1 hit. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Songbirds on Station Street.
Dougher says Saturday night’s show will feature Childers playing King’s ES-355.
“King’s song, ‘ Three O’Clock Blues’ hit No. 1 on Feb. 2, 1952, so it seems like an appropriate time to honor the King of the Blues. Paul will play some of B. B.’s hits as well as present his own high-energy show,” says Dougher. “Paul is such an entertainer. It’s going to be killer.” Tickets are $20. For more information: 423-531-2473.
