Follow ACT2 ‘Into the Woods’
Artistic Civic Theatre’s youth troupe, ACT2, will present “Into the Woods Jr.,” a musical adventure filled with everyone’s favorite fairy-tale characters in five performances beginning Tuesday, June 12.
“Into the Woods Jr.” is about storybook characters seeking to have their wishes granted. Director Ashlyn Barnett says the show is filled with moments of silliness and mystery, excitement and fear, and a little bit of magic.
The audience will follow a baker, played by Raymundo Moncayo, and his wife, Nancy Rangel, as they work to break a spell cast on their house by an enchantress, played by Brooke Schlisner.
Children and their parents will root for the couple to succeed as they encounter friends along the way such as the precocious Little Red Riding Hood (Kinsley Stephens), kind-hearted Cinderella (Sarah Lynch) and the adventurous Jack (Aaron Coker) in this actionpacked adventure.
“Artistic Civic Theatre does a fantastic job teaching kids all that is involved with making a theatrical production come to life. Our cast is made up of kids between the ages of 9 and 15. They are not only actors and actresses onstage, but many learn the tech side of a production, too,” says Barnett.
“Bringing them together onstage to form new friendships and learn from one another is where the real magic happens. Youth theatre is more than an afterschool activity, it is a place where students are taught important life skills, teamwork and discipline that they can carry with them into adulthood.”
“While the cast of ‘Into the Woods Jr.’ has been great, the real excitement has been seeing Ashlyn, an acting alumna of our children’s wing, grow as a director after years of assisting me as a choreographer and assistant director of various shows,” says musical director Jessica Brinkley.
Four evening performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, June 12-15, with an 11 a.m. matinee on June 16.
