The Welsh star of Showtime’s Masters of Sex switches gears in the romantic comedy Home Again, in theaters Sept. 8. Sheen, 48 (no relation to Charlie), plays the estranged husband of a newly single mom (Reese Witherspoon) who has fled to Los Angeles and allowed three aspiring young male filmmakers to move into her home.
What did you like about Home Again? I thought it was quite surprising at times, but I liked the fact that [my character was] the closest thing to a bad guy. Even he is still a part of the family at the end. In real life, you share your daughter with your ex, Kate Beckinsale. Did that help you relate to your character? Definitely. I like stories that explore what family means these days. It’s changed so much over the years. Having been in what some people would think of as a nontraditional family—although it’s becoming more traditional these days—definitely gave me a way into the story. You’ve played Dr. William Masters on Masters of Sex for four seasons. Do people always want to talk to you about sex? Thankfully, no. Maybe because for the majority of the story Masters was quite a cold, forbidding character.
