Two police cars struck in one day

-

Two Chattanooga Police cars were hit in two separate incidents Sunday, resulting in one arrest and an injured officer, according to CPD Public Information Officer Rob Simmons.

The first incident happened at 12:33 a.m. on Highway 27 on the Olgiati Bridge when Daniel Upton, 29, struck an officer’s vehicle with his Dodge Charger. The officer was in his patrol car working a single car traffic wreck with his emergency lights flashing and blocking the right lane of traffic.

The officer suffered neck and back injuries from the collision and was transported to a local hospital. Upton was transported to the Hamilton County Jail, where he consented to a blood alcohol test.

The second wreck occurred less than 21 hours later, when a different vehicle struck another officer’s patrol car at the site of a wreck on the right side of I-75 northbound.

The officer was not in his vehicle when it was hit, but the driver’s vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene.

Simmons said in an email that the blue lights and left amber directional arrow were in operation and that no injuries were reported.
