CSO, Chattanooga Ballet present ‘Musical Tales’

- STAFF REPORT

Chattanooga Symphony & Opera is partnering with Chattanooga Ballet to present the first performance in its Conversant Group Chamber Series on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 15.

The chamber series is moving from the Read House’s Silver Ballroom to a new location this season due to renovations in the ballroom. This season, the CSO Chamber Series will be presented in the Humanities Building auditorium at Chattanooga State Community College.

According to a CSO news release, the Humanities Theatre has seating for 300, allowing more patrons to attend. The auditorium’s raised stage will allow sight lines for all patrons. The extra stage space will allow the CSO to collaborate with other art forms, such as Chattanooga Ballet.

Concessions will be sold at each performance.

In this season-opener, the CSO and ballet dancers will tell Stravinsky’s “The Soldier’s Tale,” a story about a man, a devil, a fiddle and being happy with what you have. The ballet dancers will perform this suite, choreographed by Chattanooga Ballet artistic director Andrew Parker.

Composer James Stephenson has created the sequel to “The Soldier’s Tale” with “The Devil’s Tale.” The CSO musicians will continue the story with this piece narrated by Carey Shinbaum.

Kayoko Dan will conduct the 11 musicians in the chamber orchestra.
