Prosecutor arrested on drug, theft and misconduct charges
An assistant district attorney in McNairy County, Tenn., was arrested on drug and misconduct charges on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Then-25th District Attorney General Michael Dunavant asked for the state agency to investigate after 57-year-old Assistant District Attorney Bobby Gene Gray was charged on a grand jury indictment with two counts of official misconduct, theft under $1,000, simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, according to a statement issued by the TBI Thursday morning.
Gray turned himself in at the McNairy County Correctional Center on Wednesday, officials said. He is no longer employed by the 25th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The office prosecutes cases in Fayette, Hardeman, Lauderdale, McNairy and Tipton counties. The office in McNairy County is in Selmer, about 40 miles south of Jackson, Tenn.
