Back Alley opens ‘Over the River & Through the Woods’
Before getting caught up in your own holiday preparations, take some time to enjoy the family relationships of Nick, a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey, when Back Alley Productions presents “Over the River & Through the Woods” for six performances.
The play opens Friday, Nov. 9, in the Mars Theatre in LaFayette, Ga., continuing through Nov 18.
Nick’s parents have retired and moved to Florida, leaving him to take care of both sets of his grandparents, whom he visits for dinner every Sunday.
Sunday lunches are routine until he has to tell them that he’s been offered a dream job as a big-time marketing executive. The catch? It’s in Seattle.
The news doesn’t sit well with his grandparents. How could he pick a job over family? His grandparents are completely baffled by this generation’s priority of work over wine.
Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around for good.
Grandparents Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma set out to do their level best to stop Nick from leaving them. This includes bringing to dinner the lovely — and very single — Caitlin O’Hare. A little bait won’t hurt, right?
Perfect to kick off the holiday season, “Over the River & Through the Woods” bridges the generation gap and provides laugh-till-you-hurt moments, a few tears and some important insights into the value of family in a fast-paced modern world of deadlines and dreams of success.
