Piedmont’s Alexander signs with Lawson State
PIEDMONT – Piedmont senior volleyball player Anieshia Alexander secured the right to continue her playing career on Thursday, signing a volleyball scholarship with Lawson State Community College.
Alexander will be among 13 freshman coming into 13-year coaching veteran Aubrey Wiley’s program for next year, so Alexander’s prospects for playing time early look promising.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to play at the college level and the new adventure,” Alexander said. “I had to go through a tough tryout process to make the team, but it was worth it.”
Wiley said he already has plans on how to utilize Alexander’s talent.
“Aniesha is going to be a big asset to our program as an outside and middle hitter,” Wiley said. “I’m very excited, and I believe that this will be one of the best teams we have ever put together.”
Piedmont athletic director Steve Smith said it’s up to Alexander to decide what to make of her opportunity at Lawson State.
“ I’m excited for Aniesha and her family and I wish her the very best,” Smith said. “This also serves as an inspiration for others to work hard on the things they want to achieve in life.”
