Spring Gar­den holds off Gaylesville

SPRING GAR­DEN – For­rest Liv­ingston rushed for 65 yards on 15 car­ries and scored a touch­down to lead the Spring Gar­den Pan­thers past Gaylesville 18-16 in foot­ball jam­boree ac­tion Thurs­day night.

The Pan­thers rushed for 118 to­tal yards, all in the first half.

Spring Gar­den scored its first touch­down on a 14-play drive capped by Jake Gro­gan’s 1-yard touch­down sneak with four min­utes re­main­ing in the first quar­ter. Af­ter the Pan­thers held the Tro­jans to three downs and out, Liv­ingston scored on a 3-yard run mid­way through the sec­ond quar­ter to go up 12-0

The Pan­ther de­fense got in on the scor­ing act to close out the half. Craig Jones re­cov­ered a fum­ble and ran it in for the touch­down, giv­ing Spring Gar­den an18-0 lead at the half.

The Tro­jans ral­lied to make things close in the sec­ond half. Gaylesville scored on its sec­ond pos­ses­sion of the half on a 30-yard touch­down run by Cole Mur­phy around right end. David San­ford added the 2-point con­ver­sion to make it 18-8.

On Gaylesville’s next pos­ses­sion, San­ford scored on a 20-yard out­side run. Mur­phy added the 2point con­ver­sion for the fi­nal.

San­ford led the Tro­jans with 78 yards on 16 car­ries with a score. Mur­phy had 35 yards on three car­ries with a touch­down. He was also 4-of-6 pass­ing for 29 yards.

Levi Mor­gan added 38 yards on six car­ries. Dy­lan Mitchell had 31 rush­ing yards on three car­ries.

Matthew Her­rin was the Tro­jans’ top tar­get through the air, with three catches for 14 yards.

Mur­phy also led the Tro­jan de­fense with 11 tack­les. Chris Storey reg­is­tered eight tack­les. Mor­gan had seven tack­les, Brian San­ford tal­lied six and Dy­lan Cavin fin­ished with five tack­les.

Brad Heath led the Pan­ther de­fense with four tack­les (three for lost yardage). Liv­ingston had two tack­les and three as­sists. Evan Jones had three tack­les and a fum­ble re­cov­ery.

Pied­mont 38, Cedar Bluff 20

CEDAR BLUFF – Hay­den Hack­ett rushed for 103 yards on eight car­ries and scored two touch­downs, but it wasn’t enough to lift Class 1A Cedar Bluff past Class 3A Pied­mont on Fri­day.

Levi Mintz passed for 67 yards and a touch­down for the Tigers. DeAn­gelo Hardy was the Tigers’ pri­mary aerial threat, with three catches for 40 yards. Ri­hied Har­ris had two catches for 23 yards and Dal­ton Cosby snagged two passes for 10 yards.

No sta­tis­tics were avail­able for Pied­mont.

Sand Rock 21, West End 7

SAND ROCK – In Class 2A on Fri­day, Sand Rock hosted a full four-quar­ter jam­boree against West End. The Wild­cats claimed a 21-7 vic­tory over the Pa­tri­ots. No sta­tis­tics were kept from that game.

Jack­sonville 27, Chero­kee Co. 13

SAND ROCK – In Class 4A on Thurs­day, Chero­kee County hosted a jam­boree against Jack­sonville, fall­ing short to the Golden Ea­gles 27-13. No sta­tis­tics were avail­able as of press time from that game.
