Spring Garden holds off Gaylesville

SPRING GARDEN – Forrest Livingston rushed for 65 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown to lead the Spring Garden Panthers past Gaylesville 18-16 in football jamboree action Thursday night.
The Panthers rushed for 118 total yards, all in the first half.
Spring Garden scored its first touchdown on a 14-play drive capped by Jake Grogan’s 1-yard touchdown sneak with four minutes remaining in the first quarter. After the Panthers held the Trojans to three downs and out, Livingston scored on a 3-yard run midway through the second quarter to go up 12-0
The Panther defense got in on the scoring act to close out the half. Craig Jones recovered a fumble and ran it in for the touchdown, giving Spring Garden an18-0 lead at the half.
The Trojans rallied to make things close in the second half. Gaylesville scored on its second possession of the half on a 30-yard touchdown run by Cole Murphy around right end. David Sanford added the 2-point conversion to make it 18-8.
On Gaylesville’s next possession, Sanford scored on a 20-yard outside run. Murphy added the 2point conversion for the final.
Sanford led the Trojans with 78 yards on 16 carries with a score. Murphy had 35 yards on three carries with a touchdown. He was also 4-of-6 passing for 29 yards.
Levi Morgan added 38 yards on six carries. Dylan Mitchell had 31 rushing yards on three carries.
Matthew Herrin was the Trojans’ top target through the air, with three catches for 14 yards.
Murphy also led the Trojan defense with 11 tackles. Chris Storey registered eight tackles. Morgan had seven tackles, Brian Sanford tallied six and Dylan Cavin finished with five tackles.
Brad Heath led the Panther defense with four tackles (three for lost yardage). Livingston had two tackles and three assists. Evan Jones had three tackles and a fumble recovery.
Piedmont 38, Cedar Bluff 20
CEDAR BLUFF – Hayden Hackett rushed for 103 yards on eight carries and scored two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to lift Class 1A Cedar Bluff past Class 3A Piedmont on Friday.
Levi Mintz passed for 67 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers. DeAngelo Hardy was the Tigers’ primary aerial threat, with three catches for 40 yards. Rihied Harris had two catches for 23 yards and Dalton Cosby snagged two passes for 10 yards.
No statistics were available for Piedmont.
Sand Rock 21, West End 7
SAND ROCK – In Class 2A on Friday, Sand Rock hosted a full four-quarter jamboree against West End. The Wildcats claimed a 21-7 victory over the Patriots. No statistics were kept from that game.
Jacksonville 27, Cherokee Co. 13
SAND ROCK – In Class 4A on Thursday, Cherokee County hosted a jamboree against Jacksonville, falling short to the Golden Eagles 27-13. No statistics were available as of press time from that game.
