FORT PAYNE — Noah Led­bet­ter tossed 5 2/3 in­nings of score­less ball, sur­ren­der­ing just two hits with nine strike­outs in lead­ing top-ranked Chero­kee County to a 5-0 base­ball vic­tory over Gun­tersville in the Fort Payne Wild­cat Clas­sic on Wed­nes­day.

Colin Ed­wards went 3-for-3 with a dou­ble for the Warriors (17-3), who also de­feated host Fort Payne 9-4 in other ac­tion on Wed­nes­day. Jy Lock­ridge also had three hits. Colin Brewer added a pair of hits. Cade Gos­sett and Zae Wright both sin­gled, and Gun­nar Gable earned a walk.

In the win over Fort Payne, Chero­kee County scored four runs in the third, an­other in the fifth and four more in the sev­enth to take the win.

Josh Decker de­liv­ered a pair of hits for the Warriors. Gos­sett, sin­gled, walked and was hit by a pitch. Jy Lock­ridge and Wright both de­liv­ered a sin­gle and both were hit by a pitch. Ed­wards and Ma­son Rodgers both sin­gled and walked. Caleb Ran­sum sin­gled and Brewer earned a walk.

Ethan John­son earned the win for the Warriors. He tossed five in­nings, al­low­ing two runs on three hits with eight strike­outs. Chris­tian Stin­son recorded the fi­nal six outs to pre­serve the win.
