FORT PAYNE — Noah Ledbetter tossed 5 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, surrendering just two hits with nine strikeouts in leading top-ranked Cherokee County to a 5-0 baseball victory over Guntersville in the Fort Payne Wildcat Classic on Wednesday.
Colin Edwards went 3-for-3 with a double for the Warriors (17-3), who also defeated host Fort Payne 9-4 in other action on Wednesday. Jy Lockridge also had three hits. Colin Brewer added a pair of hits. Cade Gossett and Zae Wright both singled, and Gunnar Gable earned a walk.
In the win over Fort Payne, Cherokee County scored four runs in the third, another in the fifth and four more in the seventh to take the win.
Josh Decker delivered a pair of hits for the Warriors. Gossett, singled, walked and was hit by a pitch. Jy Lockridge and Wright both delivered a single and both were hit by a pitch. Edwards and Mason Rodgers both singled and walked. Caleb Ransum singled and Brewer earned a walk.
Ethan Johnson earned the win for the Warriors. He tossed five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts. Christian Stinson recorded the final six outs to preserve the win.
