Leesburg budgets $10K for Leesburg Day 2017
The Leesburg Town Council met April 3, in the town hall meeting room. Mayor Brandy Pierce called the meeting to order and Council Member Dianne Tillery opened the meeting with prayer.
After Mayor Pierce welcomed a good size crowd to the meeting, the minutes and expenditures were approved.
The Leesburg Day Committee will be meeting Thursday, April 6, and were told that there was a budget of $10,000 for the event.
In new business, Michael J. Tillery asked the council for use of the ball fields for free family community popcorn and a movie events on Wed- nesday evenings in June. This was approved by the council.
Greg Lumpkin spoke to the council about a proposed zoning ordinance representing concerned citizens and business interest in the town.
The zoning would project a positive image of the town and would cover areas like Business, Retail, General Business, Mobile Home Parks, Lodging Businesses, Agricultural, and residential according to Mr. Lumpkin.
The council approved for a Town Hall meeting in the FEMA building in May for questions and answers by citizens and businesses concerning the zoning.
The council approved a sealed bid of $101.85 per acre per year for the rent- ing of farm land to Rex Johnson.
Leesburg Police Chief Brent Grimes asked the council to extend applications for police department officer for two more weeks, and to allow him to go for Police Chief Training.
Chief Grimes also ask the council to approve the purchase of four badges, and crime tape for the department. These requests were approved and a grant for safety vest and the badges will be submitted.
The Town Council approved to update the ordinance with D-C Gas for the town which has not been updated since 1987.
Town Clerk Jennifer Mackey was authorized to get prices on antivirus software for the town computers.
The road access of Swan Street and Chambers Street was discussed by a town citizen but no action was taken.
Then the meeting was adjourned.
