Leesburg bud­gets $10K for Leesburg Day 2017

The Leesburg Town Coun­cil met April 3, in the town hall meet­ing room. Mayor Brandy Pierce called the meet­ing to or­der and Coun­cil Mem­ber Dianne Tillery opened the meet­ing with prayer.

Af­ter Mayor Pierce wel­comed a good size crowd to the meet­ing, the min­utes and ex­pen­di­tures were ap­proved.

The Leesburg Day Com­mit­tee will be meet­ing Thurs­day, April 6, and were told that there was a bud­get of $10,000 for the event.

In new busi­ness, Michael J. Tillery asked the coun­cil for use of the ball fields for free fam­ily com­mu­nity pop­corn and a movie events on Wed- nes­day evenings in June. This was ap­proved by the coun­cil.

Greg Lump­kin spoke to the coun­cil about a pro­posed zon­ing or­di­nance rep­re­sent­ing con­cerned cit­i­zens and busi­ness in­ter­est in the town.

The zon­ing would project a pos­i­tive im­age of the town and would cover ar­eas like Busi­ness, Re­tail, Gen­eral Busi­ness, Mo­bile Home Parks, Lodg­ing Busi­nesses, Agri­cul­tural, and res­i­den­tial ac­cord­ing to Mr. Lump­kin.

The coun­cil ap­proved for a Town Hall meet­ing in the FEMA build­ing in May for ques­tions and an­swers by cit­i­zens and busi­nesses con­cern­ing the zon­ing.

The coun­cil ap­proved a sealed bid of $101.85 per acre per year for the rent- ing of farm land to Rex John­son.

Leesburg Po­lice Chief Brent Grimes asked the coun­cil to ex­tend ap­pli­ca­tions for po­lice de­part­ment of­fi­cer for two more weeks, and to al­low him to go for Po­lice Chief Train­ing.

Chief Grimes also ask the coun­cil to ap­prove the pur­chase of four badges, and crime tape for the de­part­ment. These re­quests were ap­proved and a grant for safety vest and the badges will be sub­mit­ted.

The Town Coun­cil ap­proved to up­date the or­di­nance with D-C Gas for the town which has not been up­dated since 1987.

Town Clerk Jen­nifer Mackey was au­tho­rized to get prices on an­tivirus soft­ware for the town com­put­ers.

The road ac­cess of Swan Street and Cham­bers Street was dis­cussed by a town cit­i­zen but no ac­tion was taken.

Then the meet­ing was ad­journed.
