MR. RICHARD EU­GENE BEAR­DEN

Richard Eu­gene Bear­den, 57, of Cen­tre, died Satur­day, April 1, 2017, at Cherokee Med­i­cal Cen­ter. Mr. Bear­den was a na­tive of Floyd County, GA, the son of the late Wil­liam Clay and Mary M. Cox Bear­den and was a mem­ber of Pil­grims Rest Bap­tist Church.

Mr. Wil­liam Clin­ton Blevins, 78, of Cen­tre, died Sun­day, April 2, 2017, at his res­i­dence. Mr. Blevins was a na­tive of DeKalb County and the son of the late Clif­ford and Ot­tie Louise Haney Blevins.

Mrs. Joyce Cothran Burk, 75, of Cen­tre, died Thurs­day, April 6, 2017, at her res­i­dence. She was a na­tive of Cherokee County, mem­ber of Mt. Springs Methodist Church and re­tired seam­stress with Amer­i­can Ap­parel and Springs, She was the daugh­ter of the late Chan­cel­lor Burton and An­nie Lou Wood Rus­sell.

She was pre­ceded in death by her first hus­band, Gary Cothran and grand­son, Ethan Miller.

Mrs. Marshelean “Ma-May­nard” Bone Farmer, 79, of Cen­tre, died Fri­day, March 31, 2017, at Cherokee Health & Re­hab. Mrs. Farmer was a na­tive of Cherokee County, the daugh­ter of the late Edgar and Birdie Keasler Bone, was an in­spec­tor at Amer­i­can Ap­parel and was of the Bap­tist faith.

Mrs. Era Lorine Kerr, 93, of Cen­tre, died Sun­day, April 2, 2017, at her res­i­dence. Mrs. Kerr was a na­tive of Cherokee County, the daugh­ter of the late Paul Lester and Mil­dred Rachel Grey Fer­gu­son, was a home­maker and a mem­ber of Old Nazareth Bap­tist Church.

Mrs. Emily Mor­gan McManus, 65, of Gads­den, died Sun­day, April 2, 2017, at her res­i­dence. Mrs. McManus was a na­tive of Cherokee County and the daugh­ter of the late Frank and Vir­ginia Hall Nor­ton and was a school teacher and of the Bap­tist Faith.

Mr. Miles Nel­son Palmore, 65, of Pied­mont, died Fri­day, March 24, 2017, at RMC Jack­sonville.

Fu­neral ser­vice for Mr. Palmore will be Wed­nes­day, April 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Thompson Fu­neral Home. Burial will fol­low in Pied­mont Mem­ory Gar­dens. He was a grad­u­ate of Pied­mont High School and at­tended Gads­den State and Jack­sonville State Univer­sity. He re­tired from Bostrom Seat­ing and en­joyed fish­ing.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Carvin and May­belle Cobb Palmore; grand­son, Chris­tian Cantrell; broth­ers, A.C. Palmore, Wil­lie J, Palmore, Brad­ford Palmore, Sammy Palmore; and sis­ters, Betty Palmore, Jewell Har­ris, and Oretha Gen­leser.

MRS. ETHEL H. SIM­MONS

Mrs. Ethel H. Sim­mons, 97, passed away on April 2, 2017.

She is sur­vived by her daugh­ter Bar­bara Anne ( James) Moody; three grand­chil­dren; one great-grand­son, all of San An­to­nio, Texas; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews, all of Mont­gomery, Alabama.

Ms. Sim­mons was born in Mont­gomery County and was the daugh­ter of the late Joe and Laura Berry Har­d­away. She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, her hus­band, Leon Sim­mons, her sis­ter Pat­sie H. Allen, and her brother Joe Har­d­away Jr.

ETHEL SIM­MONS. Friends, col­leagues and loved ones said their good byes re­cently to long-time ed­u­ca­tor Ethel Sim­mons who died April 2. Her teach­ing ca­reer be­gan in Dale County and ended in Cherokee County. Pic­tured (left) is Ethel Sim­mons chat­ting with friends.
