Sand Rock’s Bates wins 200th game
COLLINSVILLE — For the past nine years, Sand Rock softball coach Josh Bates has coached in numerous big games. He coached in three more on Tuesday in the Class 2A, Area 12 softball tournament at Collinsville, but the first against Gaston held a special significance.
With the Lady Wildcats’ 14-4 victory in six innings, Bates earned his 200th career win.
When asked about the milestone, Bates deflected the praise to the girls he’s coached.
“That’s big for our program,” he said. “Our girls have worked hard, and every girl who has come through our pro- gram is a part of this. I’m proud of how hard they work to put me in a position to even have 200 wins. Some have gone on to play college ball. I’m just very fortunate to have coached the girls I’ve had and to have the success I’ve had because of them. Hopefully we’ll keep building on this.”
The Lady Wildcats went on to suffer an 11-0 loss to Collinsville, but rebounded to earn another win over Gaston by the final of 12-4.
