Meat pack­ing plant em­ploy­ees just re­ceived an un­so­licited 6 per­cent wage icrease. The pay in­crease af­fects about 25,000 hourly work­ers at at least four ma­jor pack­ing plants. Those plants are Armour& Co., Swift & Co., Mor­ris& Co. and Sulzberger& Sons. The raise means an in­crease of from 60 cents to a dol­lar per week for each worker.

Arch­bishop Mun­delein has is­sued the rules for ob­serv­ing Lent in 1916. All days ex­cept Sun­days are days of fast­ing for the faith­ful over the age of 21 who have not re­ceived spe­cial dis­pen­sa­tion. Those fast­ing are lim­ited to one full meal each day. Meat is for­bid­den onWed­nes­days and Fri­days.
