Res­i­dent of Glen El­lyn since 1953, passed away on March 1, 2016. Lov­ing father to Low­ell of Cary, Illinois. He was pre­ceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosie; son, Alan, and sis­ter, Car­men. Born on the south­side of Chicago, he loved that city and was proud of his Czech her­itage. Grew up through the de­pres­sion and was a vet­eran of World War II. He served April, 1941, to May, 1945, earn­ing 5 Bronze Bat­tle Stars. In 1945, he was an in­ter­preter with the U.S. Army to help lib­er­ate his mother’s home in Cze­choslo­vakia. A skilled crafts­man, he spent a long ca­reer in man­u­fac­tur­ing and man­age­ment. He ex­tended his artis­tic tal­ent to re­fin­ish­ing an­tique fur­ni­ture and col­lectibles, wood carv­ing, stained glass and sto­ry­telling. In 1953 he built his dream house in Glen El­lyn and stayed with wife Rosie of 66 years, grew his fam­ily, made many dear friends and al­ways had his con­stant Bos­ton Ter­rier com­pan­ions by his side.
