Eagles, Wentz beat up on Steelers

- Sun- Times wires

Rookie Carson Wentz threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns, a fierce defense sacked Ben Roethlisberger four times and the Philadelphia Eagles humbled the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers 34- 3 on Sunday to remain unbeaten.

Wentz, whom the Eagles drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in April, connected with Darren Sproles on a 73- yard catch- and- run touchdown and tossed a 12- yard scoring pass to Jordan Matthews. He became the first rookie in NFL history not to throw an interception in his first 100 pass attempts.

After beating the Browns and Bears in their first two games, the Eagles ( 3- 0) proved they could compete with the big boys. The Steelers ( 2- 1) averaged 31 points the first two weeks and are considered Super Bowl contenders.

Roethlisberger and receiver Antonio Brown hooked up 12 times for 140 yards, but the Steelers couldn’t find the end zone. They lost their ninth consecutive game in Philadelphia and haven’t won in the city since 1965.

Broncos 29, Bengals 17

Trevor Siemian threw a careerhigh four touchdown passes in his first road start and was nearly perfect under fourth- quarter pressure to rally the Denver Broncos past the host Cincinnati Bengals.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Broncos are 3- 0 under Siemian, who took over after Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler signed with the Houston Texans as a free agent. He completed 11 of 12 passes, including touchdown strikes of 41 yards to Emmanuel Sanders and 55 yards to Demaryius Thomas, in the fourth quarter.

The last Broncos quarterback to throw for four touchdown passes in a game was Manning in 2014. Siemian finished 23- for- 35 for 312 yards and had a passer rating of 132.1.

The Bengals got their dormant running game going but still fell to 1- 2 for the first time in five years. Jeremy Hill ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns, but quarterback Andy Dalton couldn’t do much after the Bengals fell behind.

Redskins 29, Giants 27

Dustin Hopkins kicked a 37- yard field goal with 1: 51 left — his fifth field goal of the game — and the visiting Washington Redskins avoided a near- disastrous 0- 3 start by rallying from a 12- point deficit to defeat the NFC East rival New York Giants.

Kirk Cousins threw touchdown passes of 44 yards to DeSean Jackson and 55 yards to Jamison Crowder as the banged- up Redskins ( 1- 2) handed coach Ben McAdoo his first loss with the Giants ( 2- 1).

Su’a Cravens ended the Giants’ final drive with an interception. It was Eli Manning’s second interception of the fourth quarter, with the other coming in the end zone by Quinton Dunbar after the Giants had driven to the Redskins’ 15.

Bills 33, Cardinals 18

LeSean McCoy ran for 110 yards and two touchdowns after combining for only 117 yards rushing in the first two games of the season, and Aaron Williams returned a botched field- goal snap 53 yards for another score in the host Buffalo Bills’ victory against the Arizona Cardinals.

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor added a 20- yard touchdown run for the Bills ( 1- 2) in their first game since coach Rex Ryan fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman and replaced him with running backs coach Anthony Lynn.

David Johnson had two touchdown runs for the Cardinals ( 1- 2), but Carson Palmer threw interceptions on each of the last four drives and was sacked five times.

Ravens 19, Jaguars 17

Justin Tucker kicked a 54- yard field goal with 1: 02 left to lift the visiting Baltimore Ravens past the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tucker raised both arms in celebration as his fourth field goal of the day split the uprights with plenty of distance. The Ravens improved to 3- 0 for the first time since 2009 and for the third time in franchise history.

The Jaguars fell to 0- 3 for the third time in the last four seasons and surely will hear more talk about coach Gus Bradley’s job security. Bradley is 12- 39 in three- plus seasons, the second- worst winning percentage of any NFL coach with at least 50 games.
