Christ the King fires girls coach

- Michael O’Brien

Christ the King fired girls basketball coach Edward Douglas on Monday after a video surfaced of him pushing one of his players during a game last week against Ellison.

‘‘ We were made aware of the incident [ Monday afternoon] and immediately began an internal investigation,’’ said David Bowles, a spokesman for Christ the King. ‘‘ The coach is no longer an employee of Christ the King.’’

Douglas, who wasn’t a teacher at the school, led Christ the King to regional titles the last three seasons. The team lost to DePaul Prep in a Class 2A sectional final last season.

‘‘ We have met with the student, her parents, her teammates and their parents and have communicated with all of our students and parents since we were made aware of the incident,’’ Bowles said. “The well- being of our students is our highest priority.’’
