NFL looks to can­cel 2 pre­sea­son games

The NFL in­tends to can­cel the first and fourth pre­sea­son games to re­duce the risk of the coro­n­avirus spread­ing and give play­ers ex­tra time to get in shape be­fore fac­ing live ac­tion, ESPN re­ported. The sched­ule change has long been ru­mored.

Play­ers ap­par­ently weren’t im­me­di­ately in­formed of the league’s plans.

“We find out ev­ery­thing NFL re­lated via twit­ter smh,” Bears wide re­ceiver Allen Robin­son tweeted. “I guess it’s 2 pre­sea­son games lol.”

The NFLPA has not agreed to the two-game pre­sea­son, and Bron­cos kicker Bran­don McManus — the team’s player rep­re­sen­ta­tive in the union — tweeted that it will be one game per team or the pre­sea­son will be elim­i­nated en­tirely.

Can­cel­ing pre­sea­son games would be the first sig­nif­i­cant in­ter­rup­tion to the NFL’s cal­en­dar, which has es­sen­tially re­mained in­tact through­out the off­sea­son de­spite the pan­demic.

The Bears are sched­uled to open the pre­sea­son at home against the Browns on Aug. 15 and close Sept. 3 at the Ti­tans. As­sum­ing those games are can­celed, their pre­sea­son sched­ule would be lim­ited to Aug. 22 at the Bron­cos and a home game Aug. 29 against the 49ers. Ja­son Lieser

For­mer Steel­ers coach and Hall of Famer Bill Cowher tested pos­i­tive for the coro­n­avirus.

The NFL re­port­edly will not con­duct a sup­ple­men­tal draft in 2020.

Kings’ Parker cleared

Chicago na­tive and for­mer Simeon star Jabari Parker was cleared by the Kings to end his self-iso­la­tion af­ter a pos­i­tive test for the coro­n­avirus.

Coach Luke Wal­ton also spoke to Parker about han­dling him­self in pub­lic af­ter pho­tos sur­faced last week of the for­ward play­ing ten­nis with­out a mask fol­low­ing his pos­i­tive test.

Cen­ter Alex Len and guard Buddy Hield also said they con­tracted the coro­n­avirus, and Wal­ton said all three are “do­ing much bet­ter” while be­ing tested ev­ery other day.

J.R. Smith will re­unite with LeBron James af­ter he was signed by the Lak­ers as a sub­sti­tute for Avery Bradley.

Ex-Bull and Rock­ets swing­man Thabo Se­folosha is opt­ing out of the NBA’s res­tart in Or­lando.

The three-month com­ple­tion of the NBA sea­son in Or­lando re­port­edly will cost the league more than $150 mil­lion.

Six FC Dal­las play­ers have virus

Six FC Dal­las play­ers tested pos­i­tive for the coro­n­avirus since ar­riv­ing in Florida for the re­sump­tion of MLS play. Two play­ers tested pos­i­tive im­me­di­ately upon ar­rival, with an ad­di­tional four test­ing pos­i­tive in the last two days.

For the first time in al­most a cen­tury, Mex­ico can­celed its pro­fes­sional base­ball sea­son be­cause of the coro­n­avirus pan­demic.

Ok­la­homa says 14 foot­ball play­ers tested pos­i­tive for the virus.

For­mer Simeon star Jabari Parker was cleared by the Kings to re­sume bas­ket­ball ac­tiv­i­ties af­ter hav­ing the coro­n­avirus.
