All Bears draftees have deals
The Bears finalized contracts with all seven of their 2020 draft picks Tuesday, which also was the day rookies were required to report to Halas Hall to begin training camp.
Cornerback Jaylon Johnson, a secondround pick from Utah, was the first to announce his signing, and the Bears had the rest of their class secured by midafternoon.
The other draftees were Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet (second round), UTEP outside linebacker Trevis Gipson (fifth), Georgia Southern cornerback Kindle Vildor (fifth), Tulane receiver Darnell Mooney (fifth), Colorado offensive lineman Arlington Hambright (seventh) and Tennessee State offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons (seventh).
♦ Multiple outlets reported the NFL Players Association agreed to the NFL’s proposal to drop all preseason games in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
♦ The NFLPA said 95 players are known to have tested positive for the coronavirus, up from 72 in its last report July 10.
♦ Three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Bennett retired after 11 seasons.
