Currently the second wild-card team
The Vikings invested in quarterback Kirk Cousins, believing he was the missing piece needed to get them over the hump after reaching the NFC championship game last season. They have won four of their last five, and it’s noteworthy that two of their losses came against the Rams and Saints. The Packers and Lions are the only teams remaining on the Vikings’ schedule currently below .500. Coach Mike Zimmer fielded serious questions about his defense through the first four weeks when it was allowing more than 381 yards per game. In the five since, the Vikings have allowed fewer than 275 yards per game and set a franchise single-game record last week when they sacked Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford 10 times. If the defense continues to play at a high level, the Vikings will have a shot.
