Kim on verge of winning 1st major

Sei Young Kim has yet to splurge on the $1.5 million shewon last year in the richest prize offered at a tournament in women’s golf.

“I’m just saving up for the future,” she said.

Winning the first major of her career just might be priceless. A 10-time LPGA Tour winner, the 27-year-old South Korean has the unwanted title of winningest active player without amajor championsh­ip.

Kim went on another streaky run of birdies Saturday at Aronimink, shooting a 3-under 67 to hold the lead and positionin­g herself to put that label to rest at the Women’ s P GA Championsh­ip in New town Square, Pa.

Kim sits at 7-under 203, two strokes ahead of Brooke Henderson and Anna Nordqvist, and will try to win it Sunday on a rare early-morning tee time.

■ Patrick Cantlay picked up enough birdies on the back nine to catch up to Martin Laird, and they each had a 6-under 65 to share the lead going into the final round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. Cantlay and Laird were at 20- under 193, while Matthew Wolff, Wyndham Clark, Brian Harm an and Austin Cool also were at 195. ... After almost nine months in America, English golfer Tyrrell Hatton, who shot 3-under-par 69 in the third round to go 14 under overall, is on target for a happy homecoming in the BMW PGA Championsh­ip. Hatton will take a three-shot lead over JBHansen and Victor Perez into the final round at Wentworth, with British Open champion Shane Lowry, Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Reed and David Horsey another stroke back. ... Darren Clarke, Colin Montgomeri­e and Woody Austin topped the SAS Championsh­ip leaderboar­d at 9 under, leaving Jim Furyk three strokes back in his bid to become the first player to win his first three PGA Tour Champions events. Clarke had a 6-under 66, Montgomeri­e shot 67 and Austin 69 at Prestonwoo­d Country Club.

Auto racing: AJ Allmending­er splashed hisway through a torrential rainstorm that turned Charlotte Motor Speedway into a slip-and-slide to win the Xfinity Series race on the hybrid road course-oval “Roval.” Allmending­er won for the second time this season in 10 starts for Kaulig Racing. Itwas an eliminatio­n race for the Xfinity Series playoffs and Harrison Burton, Brandon Brown, Michael Annett and Riley Herbst were knocked from title contention.

Cycling: British rider Alex Dowsett claimed his first Giro d’Italia stage victory in seven years, and Joao Almeida held onto the pink jersey. Dowsett, who rides for the Israel Start-Up Nation team, attacked from a six-man breakaway group 11 miles from the end of Stage 8, a 124-mile route from Giovinazzo to Vieste.

NFL: Le’Veon Bell will be back in the backfield for the Jets. The star RB was activated from the injured reserve list and he will be eligible to play on Sunday against the Cardinals. Bell spent the last three weeks on IR after injuring a hamstring in the season-opening loss in Buffalo. The Jets also released LB Alec Ogletree and WR Josh Malone. ... The 49ers promoted CB Jamar Taylor fromthe practice squad to the active roster. The Niners also announced that DL Ezekiel Ansah and CB K’Waun Williams were placed on injured reserve.

NHL: The Avalanche acquired rugged F Brandon Saad in a trade with the Blackhawks. The Avalanche sent D Nikita Zadorov and D Anton Lindholm to the Hawks for Saad and D Dennis Gilbert. ... The Hurricanes have agreed to a dealwith RW Jesper Fast on a three-year contract.... The Senators acquired F Austin Watson fromthe Predators for a fourth-roundpick.
