But­tery pecans are a good source of mo­noun­sat­u­rated fat, or MUFA, a type of fat from plant sources. Stud­ies have shown that peo­ple who con­sume di­ets high in MUFAs, such as the Mediter­ranean diet, have lower lev­els of in­flam­ma­tory chem­i­cals C-re­ac­tive pro­tein and in­ter­leukin-6 in their blood, low­er­ing the risk of chronic dis­eases.
