Masala Chai Mix

MAKES ABOUT 5 TBSP.

2 tbsp each ground gin­ger and ground cin­na­mon 2 tsp ground car­damom

½ tsp each ground black pep­per, ground fen­nel seed and ground nut­meg

In a small jar or con­tainer, mix to­gether all in­gre­di­ents.

HOW TO USE IT: Add 1 to 3 tsp to pan­cake or muf­fin bat­ter; blend 1 to 2 tsp into smooth­ies, hot chocolate or tea lat­tes; sprin­kle ½ to 1 tsp over oat­meal, or add 1 to 3 tsp to a batch of home­made ap­ple­sauce or en­ergy balls.

WHAT MAKES IT HEALTHY: Gin­ger is a pow­er­ful heal­ing spice. In fact, gin­gerol and shogaols, two of the com­po­nents in gin­ger that give it its pun­gent bite, can help re­lieve nau­sea and pain (in­clud­ing mi­graines). Gin­ger is anti in­flam­ma­tor\ and an­timi­cro­bial and ma\ have cancer-pre­ven­tive prop­er­ties. &in­na­mon, an­other ke\ spice in this mix, is an­tibac­te­rial and can be help­ful in low­er­ing fast­ing blood sugar.
