OUTDOOR RESEARCH WOMEN’S ASCENDANT HOODY

FUZZY LOVE

Climbing - - GEAR BIG REVIEW -

We climbers love our multitasking midlayers—to keep us warm on belay duty, fit under a puffy, and to climb in to stay toasty on the rock. The Outdoor Research Ascendant Hoody is an amazing, stylish, light (11-ounce) jacket that ticks all these boxes, making it perfect for year- round climbing. “The soft, fuzzy Polartec Alpha Direct insulation was a dream,” raved our tester, “like being enclosed in a Snuggie.” She also praised the jacket’s torso-hugging fit and climbing-friendly stretch, courtesy of a Pertex Microlight nylon shell with solid wind-blocking and enough water repelling for light precip. The zip chest pocket, open hand-warming side pockets, and adjustable hood were welcome as well. $215, outdoorresearch.com
