Light, hard-wearing, skinny redpoint ropes are the thing these days, a far cry from the era of beefy 11mm rigs that sometimes felt like dragging up an anchor. The new 56 grams/ meter ( or 8 lbs, 6 oz total for the 70m) BlueWater Xenon is a sleek, svelte, high- performing new entry into this category. Holding seven UIAA falls and with a dynamic elongation of 34 percent and static elongation of 4.8 percent, the double- dry Xenon held up to wear- andtear while seconding over granite lips, but was also a silky- smooth redpoint companion on overhanging sandstone sport climbs. The rope had a solid feel right off the factory coil, with minimal kinkage and a good “hand”; whether you’re getting after ice, multi- pitch trad, or hard sport, this is a bomber, long- lasting, lightweight 70. $228 dry, $213 non-dry; bluewaterropes.com
