William & Felicity
William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman on how their passion for acting keeps their love strong.
While striking a balance between a happy home life and hectic careers can often prove difficult for couples, William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman find the two naturally go hand in hand. “We both love acting — it’s the only language that we have,” William, 66, explained when Closer caught up with him at the Jan. 29 Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA. He also noted that his rapport on- and offscreen with his wife of 20 years, Felicity, 54, is coming in especially handy now that she’s preparing to shoot her new ABC sitcom pilot Libby & Malcolm, co-starring Courtney B. Vance. “We read each other’s scripts; we work together,” said William, who raved, “I love my wife!” while receiving a SAG award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor for his own comedy series, Shameless. “It’s all we’ve ever done…and it seems to work.”
“He walks into a room and I go, ‘Ah!’ ”
The couple’s daughters, Georgia and Sofia, are 14 and 16, respectively. They’ve been having a great year! “I was so scared of marriage,” Felicity has admitted. That’s why William had to propose several times before they finally wed in 1997.
