George Clooney has starred in Coen brothers’ films like O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Hail, Caesar! and now he’s directing one of their scripts, Suburbicon. “I loved the idea of our take on the suburbs [in the ’50s],” George says of the dark comedy. “It was that Leave It to Beaver time when we thought everything was simple — and if you were a straight white man it was. But other than that, it probably wasn’t.” George’s Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen cohort Matt Damon plays a husband whose seemingly idyllic life descends into violence. “It’s wonderful how it leads you in with the sense of being clearly very entertained by these slightly comedic everyday people,” says Julianne Moore, who’s cast as Matt’s wife. “And as it proceeds, the tone changes, and it becomes darker and darker until it’s really, truly noir; bad people doing bad things.” Oscar Isaac co-stars.
