RWANDA BRING RWANDA HOME
WITH GORILLAS IN THE MISTS AND VOLCANOES ON HIGH, THE AFRICAN NATION IS
A UNIQUE DESTINATION
My reason to get up in the morning is truly to live a youthful, flexible and full life,” Tovah Feldshuh tells Closer. “I’m an adventure traveler.” Staying true to her philosophy, the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend actress embarked on a trip to Rwanda. While the country experienced devastating brutalities in 1994, it is now safe and embracing the future. “The best thing I’ve ever done was trek to the mountain gorillas,” Tovah says. While in the landlocked country near the equator, she explored the massive Virunga Mountains, and she suggests first-time visitors approach the experience — and animals — with respect. “You want to look at videos, read, get phenomenal camera equipment and understand what it means to be quiet in the volcanic forest, because that is the territory of the great ape,” she explains. “You’re at his service. You don’t look him in the eye; you bow your head and you are silent.” Her memories are better than any souvenir found in a gift shop. “I will never forget it as long as I live,” Tovah says. “They were magnificent and full of humanity.”
