I’ve always described the way I like to shoot rock stars as ‘heroic,’ because they’re my heroes,” says Neal Preston, who’s been photograph­ing the biggest rock ’n’ roll musicians for more than 40 years. For his new book, Exhilarate­d and Exhausted, out Nov. 21, Preston has opened his extensive archive of life on tour with Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springstee­n, Queen, and many others, for the first time. Closer asked Neal for some insight on a few of the amazing shots that show a surprising side of his subjects.
