Weston blanks ND-Fairfield

- By Steve Geoghegan

WESTON — Led by a balanced offensive attack and a relentless defense, the Weston football team remained undefeated this season with another shutout victory.

The Trojans, who have scored 101 points in three games, blanked SWC foe Notre Dame-Fairfield 31-0 on Friday night at WHS Stadium Field.

Junior quarterback James Goetz threw three touchdown passes, Tyler Bower rushed for 86 yards on the ground and added an interception, and a stifling defense led by Chris Fruhbeis and Daniel McGuire (2 sacks apiece) helped Weston earn its second shutout while improving to 3-0 on the young season.

“The kids prepared really well and they were focused all week,” Weston head coach Dan Hassett said. “The game plan that Coach (Dan) Passarelli and Coach (Mark) Keeney put together was very good. Obviously we’ll look at the film because there’s still some stuff we need to clean up but I’m happy for the kids and I thought they executed well.”

Notre Dame (0-3) drove the ball into Weston territory on its first possession but Daniel Lewis came up with the first of three interceptions for the Trojans to halt the drive. They proceeded to march 88 yards on 10 plays, capped by Goetz’s first TD pass of the game to Brendan Sawyer from 2 yards out to give Weston a 7-0 lead with 3:09 on the clock in the first quarter.
