BRIDGEPORT — Police say a pedestrian is in grave condition after being hit by a car early Friday morning.

The pedestrian, identified as Anthony Johnson, 31, was near his East End home on East Avenue when he was struck by a black Lexus about 12:45 a.m. Friday. The motorist, who was not identified, stopped and immediately telephoned 911 and is cooperating with police, authorities said.

Police said the car carried Johnson a short distance before he dropped to the pavement. He is listed with a fractured right hip and severe facial trauma, with most of the injuries to the right side of his head and body.

He was transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital and has since been admitted to Yale New Haven Hospital. There was no update on the man’s condition Friday evening.

The accident reconstruction team has taken control of the investigation. Police say that the motorist passed a field sobriety test.
