Discover the four essential elements for creating the perfect seating area.

1. Function.

First determine how you will use the space. Will it be a Skype call with the grandkids or a place to drink your tea before work? Make sure the seating area has the functional pieces you need. This probably means a comfortable chair or bench, and a side table for that cup of coffee or laptop.

2. Fluff.

Every good seating area should be comfortable enough that you actually want to use it. Pillows will help you out here.

Not only will they add comfort to the seat, but also you can add style with various colors, patterns and textures.

3. Fuzz.

The more warm, soft items, the cozier and more aspirational it will look. Add a thick area rug, and drape a blanket over the side of the chair or bench and complete that luxurious, dreamy feel. And don’t forget to decorate up, adding artwork that helps enclose the space.

4. Foliage.

Now that you have your seating complete, accent the area with indoor plants. This will make the nook feel private and secluded, and give a rich, luscious ambience to the scene. Place a potted tree next to the seat for the illusion of shade, or stick with several smaller specimens on and around your side table.
