TYPE OF HOME: Casual Cottage
BACKGROUND: The old space was cramped with no room to expand. Most of the renovation was based on maximizing space and choosing rooms that needed improved functionality.
DESIGN ELEMENTS: The old fireplace was located where the stove currently is. The sitting room and kitchen locations were swapped to achieve the goal of making a large, usable kitchen. Storage and space were two of the main goals in redesigning this home.
INNOVATIVE IDEA: The homeowners really needed a mudroom but had no extra room to add one. Shelly used a portion of the back porch to expand the space and create a mudroom for the family of five. Using outdoor space to maximize indoor space is often a great way to add a little bit of extra room.
