How to make a bird-friendly wreath

Country Gardens - - Weekend Gardener -

MATERIALS:

10-inch-diameter straw wreath base Twigs

Dried seed heads

Fresh berries and flowers

Pruner

Needle-nose pliers

Florists pins

STEP 2 Push 6- to 8-inch branch tips into the outer corners and sides of the wreath base. Place the twigs where they will extend from the base and create perches for birds.

STEP 3 Cover one side of the triangle at a time with plant materials, sliding stem ends into the straw base to anchor and secure them. Needlenose pliers help insert stems.

STEP 1 Bend and press the straw wreath base into a shape that is more triangular and less circular.

STEP 4 Use U-shape florists pins as needed to secure soft stems to the wreath base.

STEP 5 Add plant materials to the other sides of the triangle to complete the wreath.
