MAKE YOUR MANTEL DECOR SHINE

Country Sampler - Christmas Decorating - - INSIDE -

Working with an all-new fireplace mantel gave Aleta Breese a chance to mix up her favorite vintage decor with a bit of this and that. Here are a few tips on how to create your own festive mantel display:

CHOOSE AN ANCHOR Start with a bold piece that anchors your mantel decor. Aleta began with a white reindeer head and hung it on the wall off-center and high enough to leave room for items below.

DECK THE WALL The white reindeer head comes to life with contrasting decor: a dark green wreath layered with colorful vintage ornaments around its neck and a string of red jingle bells draped around its antlers.

TRIAL AND ERROR When the forest of vintage bottle-brush trees Aleta first had in mind did not add enough height, she layered the mantel with wooden signs, one listing Santa’s reindeer in shades of lime, red, white and green.

GARLANDS GALORE Layered garlands featuring contrasting elements lend texture across the face of the fireplace. By adding strips of aqua ribbon to the rag garland, Aleta tied it to her new color scheme.
