PHOTOGRAPHY: SUNDAY HENDRICKSON

Find a piece of sea-smoothed driftwood on a beach walk? Use it to stand in for a stem on a plywood pumpkin. As an alternative to paint, use scrapbook paper, gift wrap or wallpaper remainders to add a colorful or patterned touch to some of your wood cutouts. Put leftover lace or a seldom-used dresser scarf to new use as a billowy bow or a feminine foundation for your fall arrangement. Make the most of scrap plywood, lumber, trim or logs by cutting it into a variety of sizes and shapes, like the pumpkins and hearts shown here. Turn remnants of ribbon, trim and fabric into a simple garland of torn and knotted strips or as embellishments for other decor.
