For this pretty toss pillow, we were inspired by a similar design from Stitched by Crystal (www.stitchedbycrystal.com). Her pillow cover reverses to a holly-and- berries design, which is pretty cool, but for our room, we decided to stick with just the vertical leaves pattern. To make our version, purchase or sew a simple pillow cover from cotton canvas. Cut a leaf template from paper by folding a piece of paper in half, drawing half a leaf shape, then cutting out and opening the shape to reveal a full leaf. Use the template to cut leaves from four different shades of non- fraying velvet or a similar fabric. Arrange the leaves on the front of the pillow cover, alternating the colors in a pattern. Secure the leaves with straight pins. Using contrasting thread, sew the leaves in place with a vertical straight stitch through the center of each leaf. Connect various leaves together with additional straight stitches between the leaves, but leave some of the leaves unattached so the result looks like a free-falling pattern.
