GATHERING FOR A PARTY OUTSIDE makes entertaining so much easier. No need to limit the guest list according to room size, and there’s much less formality by design. Party guru Lee Repetto places a picnic table under a shaded pergola and swathes it with yards of vintage fabric. She cuts flowering shrubs and leafy branches to add flourish and invites friends and family for a twilight evening of pie tasting.

To add an extra layer of fun, consider kraft-paper party decorations. Made of parchment paper and parcel wrap, these pieces are celebratory without stealing the show from the natural elements. Place pies at different levels to create visual interest. Use inverted pewter tumblers as instant pie stands.

Vintage pie tins hold an array of pies with both lattice and crumb toppings.
