A Veteran of Life

This is a chance photograph of my late father, Charles “Chuck” Zimmerman. He was in the final stages of Alzheimer’s disease and was unable to verbally communicate. He was being cared for in a nearby nursing home and my mother, brother and I were having Christmas lunch with him. For one brief moment, he looked out a nearby window with this thoughtful, dignified pose. I was lucky to have my camera with me. He was a World War II veteran, a farmer, and a kind, caring person. I think this is a fitting, final portrait in his honor.
