This top-down, spi­ral-shaped shawl with lay­ers of arch­ways is adorned with nupps, an Es­to­nian stitch that is like a bob­ble and re­sem­bles a flower bud. This piece is the per­fect mix of ar­chi­tec­tural and or­ganic shap­ing.

Pat­tern Note

The shawl be­gins with a garter stitch tab; stitches are picked up along the left side and cast-on edges of this tab to cre­ate stitches for the shawl. When the shawl is com­plete, stitches are cast on for the bor­der, and the bor­der is at­tached to the shawl on wrong-side rows by knit­ting 1 bor­der stitch to­gether with 1 shawl stitch.

Garter St Tab Cast on 3 sts.

Knit 10 rows. Pick-up row (RS): K3, ro­tate work a quar­ter turn to the right; pick up and knit 5 sts along left side edge (1 st in each space be­tween garter ridges); ro­tate work a quar­ter turn to the right again; pick up and knit 3 sts across cast-on edge—11 sts.
