With just a cou­ple of small changes, you can make this cardi­gan into a pullover! Not a fan of the Eyelet Lace pat­tern? Choose one of the other Mix & Match lace pat­terns in­stead— they can be used in­ter­change­ably!

19 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches/10cm in Eyelet Lace pat with larger nee­dles (blocked). To save time, take time to check gauge.

Spe­cial Ab­bre­vi­a­tions

Make 1 (M1): In­sert LH nee­dle from front to back un­der hor­i­zon­tal strand be­tween last st worked and next st on LH nee­dle; knit through back of re­sult­ing loop. Slip, slip, purl (ssp): Sl 2 sts, 1 at a time, kwise to RH nee­dle; re­turn sts to LH nee­dle in turned po­si­tion and p2­togtbl—a left-lean­ing sin­gle dec.

Spe­cial Tech­nique

3-St, 1-Row But­ton­hole: Bring yarn to front, slip next st pwise, bring yarn to back. *Slip next st pwise to RH nee­dle and pull first slipped st over 2nd st; rep from * twice; slip rem st back to LH nee­dle; turn work and, us­ing ca­ble cast-on method (see page 95), cast on 4 sts (1 more than bound off). Turn work again; slip first st on LH nee­dle to RH nee­dle and pass ex­tra st on RH nee­dle over it. Note: The last st on the RH nee­dle will count as first st in the se­quence of pat sts fol­low­ing the but­ton­holes in the But­ton­hole Band sec­tion.

Pat­tern Notes

This cardi­gan is worked in pieces from the bot­tom up and seamed.

To make a pullover in­stead of a cardi­gan, make 2 back pieces and no fronts. Work Fin­ish­ing in­struc­tions, ex­cept, af­ter sewing seams, skip di­rectly to Neck­band (Pullover) sec­tion.

If us­ing mark­ers be­tween each pat­tern re­peat on Eyelet Lace pat­tern, shift mark­ers on Rows 1 and 5.

Edge stitches are worked in stock­inette stitch through­out.

De­crease as fol­lows: Work k1, k2­tog at be­gin­ning of right-side rows and ssk, k1 at end. Work p 1, ssp at be­gin­ning of wrong-side rows and p2­tog, p1 at end.

In­crease as fol­lows: Work k1, M1 at be­gin­ning of right-side rows and M1, k1 at end.

When shap­ing in the Eyelet Lace pat­tern, if you can’t work both the yarn over and its ac­com­pa­ny­ing de­crease, work in stock­inette stitch in­stead.

Back

Edg­ing With smaller nee­dles, cast on 75 (83, 91, 99, 107, 115, 123) sts. Work 7 rows in Twisted Rib. Purl 1 row.

Body Change to larger nee­dles. Set-up row (RS): K1 (edge st), work Eyelet Lace pat to last st, k1 (edge st).

Inc 1 st each side on next row, then [ev­ery 10 (6, 10, 6,8, 6, 4) rows] 4 (2,2, 4, 6,7, 2) times and [ev­ery 0 (8, 12, 8,0, 8, 6) rows] 0 (4,2, 3, 0, 1, 8) time(s), work­ing new sts into pat as they ac­cu­mu­late—53 (57, 61, 67, 73, 77, 81) sts.

Work even un­til sleeve mea­sures 11 (11, 111/2, 111/2, 12, 12, 121/2) inches, end­ing with a WS row.

Raglan Cap Bind off 2 (3,3, 4, 4, 5, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows—49 (51, 55, 59, 65, 67, 71) sts.

Dec 1 st each side on next row, then [ev­ery 4 rows] 4 (5,5, 4, 3, 4, 4) times and [ev­ery RS row] 10 (10, 12, 15, 19, 19, 21) times—19 sts.

Bind off.

Fin­ish­ing

Block pieces to fin­ished mea­sure­ments. Sew raglan seams. Sew sleeve and side seams. Note: If work­ing pullover, skip di­rectly to Neck­band (Pullover) sec­tion.

But­ton Band With RS fac­ing and us­ing cir­cu­lar nee­dle, pick up and knit 89 (91, 93, 97, 99, 101, 103) sts along left front edge.

Beg with a WS row, work 5 rows in Twisted Rib.

Bind off all sts kwise.

But­ton­hole Band With RS fac­ing and us­ing cir­cu­lar nee­dle, pick up and knit 89 (91, 93, 97, 99, 101, 103) sts along right front edge.

Beg with a WS row, work 2 rows in Twisted Rib. But­ton­hole row (WS): *Work 9 (9, 10, 10, 10, 11, 11) sts in es­tab­lished rib, work 3-St, 1-Row But­ton­hole over 3 sts; rep from * 6 times, work to end. Work 2 rows even. Bind of all sts kwise; leave last st on nee­dle and do not cut yarn.

Neck­band (Cardi­gan) With RS fac­ing and us­ing same yarn as used for but­ton­hole band, pick up and knit 4 sts across top of but­ton­hole band, 30 (31, 31, 33, 33, 34, 34) sts along right front neck, 17 sts across top of right sleeve, 59 (61, 61, 65, 65, 67, 67) sts along back neck, 17 sts across top of left sleeve, 30 (31, 31, 33, 33, 34, 34) sts along left front neck and 5 sts across top of but­ton band—163 (167, 167, 175, 175, 179, 179) sts.

Work 1 row in Twisted Rib.

But­ton­hole row (RS): K1, work 3-St, 1-Row But­ton­hole over 3 sts, work in es­tab­lished rib to end. Work 3 rows even. Bind off all sts kwise. Weave in ends. Sew but­tons to but­ton band op­po­site but­ton­holes.

Neck­band (Pullover) With RS fac­ing and us­ing cir­cu­lar nee­dle, pick up and knit 59 (61, 61, 65, 65, 67, 67) sts along back neck and 59 (61, 61, 65, 65, 67, 67) sts along front neck; pm for beg of rnd and join—118 (122, 122, 130, 130, 134, 134) sts. Rnds 1–5: *K1-tbl, p1; rep from * around. Bind off all sts kwise. Weave in ends.
