Pat­tern Notes

Shrug is worked flat from side to side. Ends of shrug are par­tially seamed to cre­ate the fin­ished shape. Op­tional cuffs are picked up from the sleeve edges and worked in the round.

Cir­cu­lar nee­dle is used to ac­com­mo­date large num­ber of stitches. Do not join; work back and forth in rows.

Body Set-up row (RS): Work 3 sts in Seed St (edge sts), pm; work [8-st Right Fern panel and 8-st Left Fern panel] 9 (9, 10, 10, 11) times, work [Right Fern panel] 0 ( 1, 0,1, 0 ) time(s), pm; work 3 sts in Seed St (edge sts).

Keep­ing first and last 3 edge sts in Seed St, work in es­tab­lished pats un­til body mea­sures ap­prox 50 (511/2, 521/2, 531/2, 543/4) inches, end­ing with Row 5 or 11 of pan­els. Bor­der Work 3 rows in Seed St.

Bind off loosely in pat.

Fin­ish­ing

Note: If not fa­mil­iar with cro­chet slip stitch seam (sl st seam), re­fer to Cro­chet Class on page 97. Re­fer­ring to Fig­ure 1, fold piece in half length­wise with RS tog.

Us­ing cro­chet hook, work 11-inch sl st seam (see page 97) to join edges of lower sleeve. Rep for other side. Weave in ends. Block to mea­sure­ments Cuffs (op­tional) *With RS fac­ing and us­ing dpns, pick up and knit 16 (16, 17, 17, 18) sts along a sleeve edge, cen­ter­ing picked-up sts over seam; us­ing ca­ble cast-on (see page 95), cast on 16 (16, 17, 17, 18) sts; pm for beg of rnd and join—32 (32, 34, 34, 36) sts.
