• Ber­roco Remix (worsted weight; 30% ny­lon/27% cot­ton/24% acrylic/10% silk/ 9% linen; 216 yds/100g per ball): 3 balls old jeans #3927 • Size 8 (5mm) 24-inch or longer cir­cu­lar

nee­dle or size needed to ob­tain gauge • Size 7 (4.5mm) cro­chet hook (for fringe) • Re­mov­able stitch mark­ers

Gauge

20 sts and 26 rows = 4 inches/10cm in 2x2 Rib (slightly stretched). To save time, take time to check gauge.

Spe­cial Ab­bre­vi­a­tion

Make 1 (M1): In­sert LH nee­dle from back to front un­der hor­i­zon­tal strand be­tween last st worked and next st on LH nee­dle; knit into front of re­sult­ing loop.

Pat­tern Stitch

2x2 Rib (mul­ti­ple of 4 sts + 2) Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end. Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 for pat.

Pat­tern Note

Cir­cu­lar nee­dle is used to ac­com­mo­date large num­ber of stitches; do not join.

Capelet

Cast on 210 sts.

Work in 2x2 Rib un­til piece mea­sures 9 inches, end­ing with a WS row. Dec row (RS): K2, *p2­tog, k2; rep from * to end of row—158 sts.

Knit­ting the knit sts and purl­ing the purl sts, work even un­til piece mea­sures 12 inches, end­ing with a WS row; pm at each end of last row worked. Shape Shoul­ders Dec row (RS): K2, *p1, k2­tog; rep from * to last 3 sts, p1, k2—107 sts.

Work even un­til piece mea­sures 14 inches, end­ing with a WS row. Col­lar Inc row (RS): K2, *p1, k1, M1; rep from * to last 3 sts, p1, k2—158 sts. Next row (WS): P2, *k1, p2; rep from * to end of row.

Work even un­til piece mea­sures 17 inches, end­ing with a WS row.

Bind off loosely in rib.

Fin­ish­ing

Sew cen­ter back seam, re­vers­ing seam from mark­ers to bound-off edge so that in­side seam does not show when col­lar is folded down.

Weave in ends. Fringe Cut 138 34-inch strands of yarn. *Hold 2 strands tog and fold in half. Use cro­chet hook to draw folded end through cen­ter of back seam from RS to WS (see page 95). Pull loose ends through folded sec­tion. Draw knot up firmly. Rep from * across lower edge, work­ing fringe in be­tween each pair of 2 knit sts. Trim even.
