Smoky Mountain Scarf
This airy creation with unexpected allover slits will feel delicious against your skin on a cool spring afternoon.
Approx 91/2 inches wide x 77 inches long
• Plymouth Yarn Nako Arya Ebruli (sport weight; 80% acrylic/10% alpaca/ 10% wool; 600 yds/100g per ball): 2 balls black white #6398 • Size 6 (4mm) 32-inch circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge
22 sts and 45 rows = 4 inches/10cm in garter st. To save time, take time to check gauge.
Scarf is worked sideways, with the caston and bind-off along the long edges.
Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Do not join; work back and forth in rows.
Slip first stitch of every row purlwise with yarn in front.
Cast on over bound-off stitches using cable cast-on (see page 95).
Cast on 422 sts. Rows 1–10: Sl 1, knit to end. Row 11: Sl 1, k12, *bind off 12 sts, k36 (including st on RH needle); rep from * to last 25 sts, bind off 12 sts, knit to end. Row 12: Sl 1, knit to end, casting on 12 sts over bound-off sts. Rows 13–22: Sl 1, knit to end. Row 23: Sl 1, *k36, bind off 12 sts; rep from * to last 37 sts, knit to end. Row 24: Sl 1, knit to end, casting on 12 sts over bound-off sts.
Rep [Rows 1–24] 3 times, then [Rows 1–10] once, ending with a WS row.
Loosely bind off all sts kwise.
Weave in ends.
Block lightly to measurements.
