With A, cast on 38 sts. Slip­ping first st of each row, knit

5 rows. Rows 1 (RS)–6: Sl 1, k2, *p4, k4; rep

from * across to last 3 sts, k3. Rows 7–12: Sl 1, k2, *k4, p4; rep from

* across to last 3 sts, k3. Rows 13–48: Rep [Rows 1–12]

3 times. Cut A.

Edge

Row 1 (RS): Change to B; sl 1, knit

to end. Us­ing ca­ble cast-on (see page 111),

cast on 24 sts for strap—62 sts. Knit 5 rows. Bind off; cut B, leav­ing an 8-inch tail.

Fin­ish­ing

Us­ing tail, sew bound-off end of strap to side of pot holder, be­low bor­der (see photo for ref­er­ence). Weave in ends.

With C, cast on 77 sts (38 sts per

side + 1 cor­ner st). Pm in cen­ter st and move it up
