Back­ward-Loop Cast-On

This is the first cast-on that many knit­ters learn. It’s very easy to do, but the first row is a lit­tle chal­leng­ing to work. It’s a handy one to use if you need to cast on stitches at the be­gin­ning or end of a row. Step 1: Pick up the work­ing yarn with your left hand to cre­ate a loop. Step 2: Twist the loop around a half turn to the right, un­til it crosses over it­self. Step 3: Put the loop on the nee­dle and pull the work­ing yarn to tighten.
