Simple to knit, modern and sassy—this kerchief has it all! This would also be a great stashbusting project.

Gauge

24 sts and 48 rows = 4 inches/10cm in garter st (blocked). To save time, take time to check gauge.

Special Abbreviation

Wrap and Turn (W&T): Slip next st pwise to RH needle. Bring yarn to opposite side of work between needles, then slip same st back to LH needle. Bring yarn to opposite side, wrapping st. Turn, leaving rem sts unworked, then beg working back in the other direction. To hide wraps on subsequent rows: Work to wrapped st. With RH needle, pick up wrap and work wrap tog with wrapped st.

Pattern Notes

Scarf is worked sideways from one tip to the other. The striped border is worked as a knitted-on edging; 1 border stitch is knit together with 1 stitch from the scarf body at the end of every right-side row.

Slip first stitch of every row purlwise with yarn held in back of work; bring yarn in front of work, then slip last stitch purlwise.

When changing colors on body, cut yarns, leaving 5-inch tails on both old and new yarns.

Rows 97–169 of Decreasing Section are worked with 2 colors using the Intarsia method (see page 79). At color changes, avoid making holes by picking up new color from under old color.

When changing colors for border, carry yarn not in use up side. At each color change, bring new color from under old color at beginning of row.
