Pat­tern Notes

Sweater is worked in pieces from the bot­tom up, then seamed. Strips of lace are knit sep­a­rately, then sewn to neck and sleeve edges for neck­band and cuffs.

Work side, arm­hole and sleeve cap de­creases as fol­lows: Work k2, ssk at be­gin­ning of right-side rows, and k2­tog, k2 at end.

Work neck de­creases as fol­lows: Work k1, ssk at be­gin­ning of right-side rows, and k2­tog, k1 at end.

With larger nee­dles, cast on 144 (156, 170, 184, 196) sts. Side Vents Work in 1x1 Rib un­til piece mea­sures 1 inch, end­ing with a WS row. Set-up row (RS): Work 6 sts in es­tab­lished rib, pm; work in St st to last 6 sts, pm; work in es­tab­lished rib to end.

Work even un­til piece mea­sures 5 inches, end­ing with a WS row. Shape Sides Change to St st across all sts; work 4 rows even.

Dec 1 st each side on next row, then [ev­ery 6 rows] 8 times, then [ev­ery 8 rows] 7 times—112 (124, 138, 152, 164) sts.

Work even un­til piece mea­sures 201/2 inches, end­ing with a WS row.

Shape Arm­holes

Bind off 6 (7,8, 8, 10) sts at beg of next 2 rows and 2 (3,4, 5, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows—96 (104, 114, 126, 132) sts.

Dec 1 st each side [ev­ery RS row] 1 (3, 6, 10, 10) time(s), then [ev­ery 4 rows] 3 (3,2, 1, 1) time(s)—88 (92, 98, 104, 110) sts.

Work even un­til arm­holes mea­sure 7 (71/2, 8, 81/2, 9) inches, end­ing with a WS row. Shape Neck Di­vi­sion row (RS): K23 (25, 28, 31, 34); join 2nd ball of yarn and bind off cen­ter 42 sts; knit to end.

Work­ing both sides at once with sep­a­rate balls of yarn, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge once—21 (23, 26, 29, 32) sts each side.

Work 1 row even. Shape Shoul­ders Bind off 5 (6,6, 7, 8) sts at beg of next 6 rows, then 6 (5,8, 8, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Work as for back un­til piece mea­sures 19 (191/2, 20, 20, 21) inches, end­ing with a WS row, and on last row, pm be­tween 2 cen­ter sts—112 (124, 138, 152, 164) sts with 56 (62, 69, 76, 82) sts on each side of cen­ter marker. Shape Neck & Arm­holes Note: Read through en­tire sec­tion be­fore beg be­cause neck and arm­hole are shaped si­mul­ta­ne­ously. Di­vi­sion row (RS): Knit to 3 sts be­fore marker, k2­tog, k1; join 2nd ball of yarn, then k1, ssk, knit to end.

Work­ing both sides at once with sep­a­rate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge [ev­ery RS row] 7 times, then [ev­ery 4 rows] 15 times, then work even at neck edges to end.

At the same time, when piece mea­sures 201/2 inches, end­ing with a WS row, shape arm­holes as for back— 21 (23, 26, 29, 32) sts each side when all arm­hole and neck shap­ing is com­plete.

Sleeve

Work even un­til piece mea­sures 17 inches, end­ing with a WS row. Shape Cap Bind off 6 (7,8, 8, 10) sts at beg of next 2 rows—70 (74, 78, 84, 88) sts

Dec 1 st each side [ev­ery 4 rows] 2 (2, 2,1, 1) time(s), then [ev­ery RS row] 18 (20, 22, 26, 28) times—30 sts.

Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows—18 sts.

Bind off rem sts.

Fin­ish­ing

Block pieces to mea­sure­ments. Sew shoul­der seams.

Neck­band With smaller nee­dles, cast on 9 sts.

Work Lace pat un­til piece, when slightly stretched, fits along en­tire neck­line, beg and end­ing at cen­ter front, with front edges over­lapped. Bind off all sts. Sew bound-off edge of neck­band to WS of first 11/4 inches of left front neck edge, then sew side edge of neck­band along right front neck edge and around to left front.

Sew cast-on edge of neck­band to WS of right neck edge. Sleeve Cuffs With smaller nee­dles, cast on 9 sts.

Work Lace pat un­til piece, when slightly stretched, fits around lower edge of sleeve. Sew cuffs in place. Set in sleeves. Sew sleeve seams. Sew side seams, beg at top of side vent rib­bing.
