Special Technique

Sloped Bind-Off: Work the first bindoff row as usual. On the following row, work to the last st, turn. Sl 1 pwise to RH needle, pass first st on RH needle over slipped st to bind off first st, then bind off rem sts in the usual manner.

Pattern Notes

Poncho is worked in 1 piece from the shoulders down.

The shoulder/neck panel is worked first, beginning just below the back neck with a provisional cast-on. After a few rows, stitches are bound off for the back neck, then cast on again for the front neck, and then the front is worked to the bottom edge. The provisional caston is then unpicked, and the back is worked from the top down from the live stitches.

Pattern is worked back and forth in rows. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Do not join.

Work edge stitches in stockinette stitch throughout.

Work decreases as follows: At beginning of row, work 1 edge st, then work 2 sts tog (ssk if

next st is a knit st, ssp if next st is a purl st); at end of row, work 2 sts tog (p2tog if next st is a knit st, k2tog if next st is a purl st), then work 1 st (edge st).
